Five Months Old

Celebrating FIVE months of sweet moments and fun learning with our little guy!

This has been a fun month of new changes.  A key word to describe Titon's current development is "curious" -- he seems to see everything going on around him and tries to grab anything within reach!  Most every time we pick him up his little fingers get ahold of a toy and usually a fistful of Mom's hair when we put him down!

Titon likes to pat his hand on our shoulder or the table, and he's able to hold two or three toys at a time.  He's interested to watch where toys go... such as rolling balls, or dropping a toy and waiting to see if we'll pick it up. :)  He still likes playing on his tummy, and with some support will sit up to play.  He has started to lean or lunge toward something he wants... makes us feel good when he reaches for Mom or Dad to hold him! :)  And, he LOVES when Dad lifts him high over his head and makes him "fly!"

We are excited to see Titon taking some interest in books.  Before naptime or bedtime he likes to sit on our lap and listen to a story or two.  He helps hold the books and sometimes turns the pages.  But, he's especially helpful at tasting them to see how they read. :)

Titon is so fun!  It sure is sweet to hear him giggle!  He smiles at us all the time, but it's hard to catch those grins in photos.  He's too smart for the camera and his curiosity takes over. :)

Titon has been sleeping 8-9 hours since he was 2 months old, and 9-10 hours at 3 months.  But, we had developed a routine of walking him to sleep every night (he didn't like for us to sit and rock), and our growing baby was getting heavier to carry!  In addition, most every night when we placed him in his crib, he would often wake up and cry.  Our ritual of walking and laying him back down would repeat for 30 min. to 2 hours before he was finally settled for the night.  This month, we made a switch to letting him settle himself to sleep.  We snuggle, sing, read our storybook, and pray with him before we lay him down.  But, after we kiss him goodnight and tuck him in, we close the door and let him fall asleep.  The first few nights were hard to let him cry.  Mom and Dad wanted to rush in and swoop him up!  But, we made it through those learning times and now our baby boy is sleeping 11-12 hours easily.  He wakes up happy and rested, and goes down so much easier for naptimes and bedtime.  Usually, he smiles at us and welcomes his blanket and stuffed bear, as if to say "thank you for putting me to bed!" :)

 Sweet dreams, baby boy!  Night-night!
